Captains
We have many student led jobs that help students work together to maintain the classroom and create a sense of community as a class. We rotate jobs every 5-6 weeks and students volunteer for jobs. It is always challenging to give everyone a chance at every job, but I try my best!
Minor Incidents
Behavior captains assist me in encouraging students who are talkative, too noisy, or off task to get back to working quietly and staying focused.
If I notice a student is having trouble following a rule several classes in a row , 2nd-5th grade students may need to have a warning, seat change, sit aside for a few minutes or complete a form which asks them to reflect
on what rule they broke, why, and what they should have done differently, depending on the situation.
If the student brings this form home, please sign it and return it in my mailbox in the office.
For Kindergarten and 1st grade students breaking class rules may need to sit aside for a few
minutes and discuss what happened and what they could do better for the next time. Depending on the situation, they may also have a form come home telling what happened in their own words or pictures.
Major Incidents
Some incidents are considered major or severe and will need immediate attention. In such
cases parents may need to be called. If a child does not cooperate and complete a reflection
form or if they are not able to discuss the incident that occurred, I may also need to call home.
Art Awards
Behavior Captians and myself will be recognizing student's positive behavior and hard work with Amazing Artist Awards. At the end of each class, we hope to give up to three awards. By the end of the year every student will have been recognized. Some students may receive more than one.
Free Choice Fridays
Students will be working together with their class to earn points toward Free Choice Art time on their Friday art days. Free Choice Time fosters creativity by allowing students more options and independence. Some options will be: Ipads art, modeling clay, digital portfolios, sketch books, school events/displays, visible thinking routines, working with special materials/mediums or finishing their regular art lesson if the due date has passed.
